The development of interdisciplinary research, support for young scientists and PhD students, and closer cooperation between science and industry are the key goals behind the institute’s accession to the Max Born Wrocław Research Alliance.

Two more researchers at Łukasiewicz – PORT have been awarded the degree of habilitated doctor. This is not only an important milestone in their individual careers, but also a key element of the institute’s long-term strategy focused on developing independent research teams and educating future generations of scientists.

Łukasiewicz – PORT has been identified as one of the potential locations for the planned European Space Agency (ESA) Technology Centre in Poland. The candidacy of Wrocław and the Lower Silesia region was officially endorsed in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Donald Tusk and to the European Space Agency.

Two new projects at Łukasiewicz – PORT have received funding from the National Science Centre under the OPUS 29 and PRELUDIUM 24 calls, led by Dr. Agnieszka Krzyżosiak and Kamila Nowak, MSc.

The project “P4Health: A Center of Excellence for Precision Phenotyping and Biological Data Banking for Personalized Brain Health,” developed by researchers at Łukasiewicz – PORT, has been placed on the ranking list of projects recommended for funding in the International Research Agendas (MAB) FENG program, organized by the Foundation for Polish Science. The recommended level of funding amounts to PLN 34 million.

Combating harmful bacteria amid rising antimicrobial resistance remains one of the key challenges of modern science. Dr Tapendu Samanta is developing a new class of advanced materials that may display antibacterial activity without relying on traditional antibiotics.

The fourth call of the Virtual Research Institute (WIB) has been resolved. An international panel of experts awarded the highest score to the project “Personalized antibody-drug conjugates activated by matrix metalloproteinases for solid tumors (PACMAN)”, submitted by a consortium of scientific institutions from Wrocław and Warsaw. An amount of PLN 72,854,995 from the Polish Science Fund has been allocated for its implementation.

Łukasiewicz – PORT is systematically strengthening its presence in venues where the directions of development of modern medicine, materials technologies, and technological innovation are discussed. The participation of institute representatives in key conferences and forums in Poland and abroad results from a consistently implemented strategy focused on the development of international partnerships, building networks of contacts, and engagement in initiatives co-creating the European Research Area.

The Independent P4Health Department – Center of Excellence for Precision Phenotyping and Biological Data Banking was separated from the institute’s structure to focus on the strategic P4Health project. Its goal is to create in Poland a center that sets standards for modern, translational biomedical research. At the beginning of December, the position of the Center’s Director is assumed by Prof. Bastian Hengerer, former Director of Neurodegeneration Research at Boehringer Ingelheim.

Dr. Maria Zdończyk and Dr. Piotr Kenis have defended their doctoral dissertations. Although they represent different disciplines, they share a common way of looking at the world: through the lens of matter and the tools that allow them to study it at scales invisible to the naked eye. And above all, a curiosity about what else can be created from it. They work together at the Materials Research Laboratory at Łukasiewicz – PORT, where they combine their interdisciplinary expertise.
