new.<\/b> In the late 19th century, the Wroc\u0142aw authorities built a self-sufficient care-and-treatment complex here \u2013 a place designed not only to treat residents but to keep them active, through work in the gardens and a share in the daily life of the center.<\/p>\n<p>The first buildings, designed by Richard Pl\u00fcddemann and Karl Klimm, were completed in 1896 and still form a coherent urban layout amid expansive greenery. <b>It is this genius loci \u2013 the caring spirit of the place, its tradition of treatment, care, and scientific progress \u2013 that gives the initiative its natural ground.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We are developing that older idea with the tools of 21st-century science: in a safe, green space where research on healthy aging can meet the people it is
