He will discuss how organisms detect internally generated mechanical signals, and how this information is processed by the nervous system and used to control behavior. <\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The second part of the lecture will focus on research in octopuses \u2013 organisms with exceptionally complex nervous systems and a body plan fundamentally different from that of mammals. The speaker will address topics including proprioception, arm control, camouflage, wound healing, and the regeneration of complex neural circuits. <\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Comparing mammals and octopuses offers an evolutionary perspective on body perception. It shows that different organisms face a similar challenge \u2013 how to effectively sense signals from their own bodies and the environment \u2013 while developing distinct neural and behavioral solutions. <\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The seminar will be of particular interest to those working in neuroscience, comparative neurobiology, physiology, bioengineering, mechanobiology, motor control, and sensory integration.<\/span><\/p><p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">About the speaker<\/span><\/b><\/p><p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"781\" data-end=\"1108\">Dr. Kuo-Sheng Lee is affiliated with the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica in Taipei. His work examines sensory coding in mechanoreceptors and their associated central nervous system circuits, combining two-photon imaging, holographic optogenetics, electrophysiology, and closed-loop behavioral experiments.<\/p><p data-start=\"1110\" data-end=\"1404\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">He trained at the Max Planck Florida Institute and the University of Geneva. His publications include articles in <em data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1234\">Nature<\/em>, <em data-start=\"1236\" data-end=\"1244\">Neuron<\/em>, and <em data-start=\"1250\" data-end=\"1271\">Nature Neuroscience<\/em>, and his achievements have been recognized with Academia Sinica\u2019s Career Development Award and the Innovative Young Scholar Award.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How does the nervous system integrate signals from the body and the outside world?
