This is the institute\u2019s first project recognized under the <strong data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"757\">EIC Pathfinder Open<\/strong> scheme\u2014one of the most competitive instruments supporting breakthrough technologies in the European Union. Current CT scanners face limitations\u2014low-dose imaging often means reduced image quality, and soft-tissue contrast remains insufficient. In addition, advanced diagnostics such as PET or MRI are expensive and difficult to implement in smaller medical centers. QuPIX offers a solution capable of overcoming these challenges.<\/p><p data-start=\"1656\" data-end=\"1916\">The technology is based on two breakthrough components:<br data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1714\" \/>\u2022 <strong data-start=\"1716\" data-end=\"1759\">Quantum perovskite scintillators (QuPS)<\/strong>, which emit light after interacting with an X-ray photon<br data-start=\"1816\" data-end=\"1819\" \/>\u2022 <strong data-start=\"1821\" data-end=\"1864\">Micro-avalanche photon counters (\u03bcAPCs)<\/strong>, which convert this light into electrical signals<\/p><p data-start=\"1918\" data-end=\"2212\">Each pixel of the detector functions like a microscopic laboratory\u2014capturing the energy of individual photons and generating an image that reflects not only anatomical structure but also the material \u201ccolor\u201d of tissues. This enables more detailed, safer, and more affordable diagnostic imaging.<\/p><p data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2517\">Beyond medicine, QuPIX has applications in <strong data-start=\"2257\" data-end=\"2269\">industry<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"2294\">security systems<\/strong>\u2014from image-guided surgery and quality control in manufacturing to airport luggage scanning. Researchers in Wroc\u0142aw collaborate with partners from the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Romania, including <strong data-start=\"2833\" data-end=\"2845\">TU Delft<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2847\" data-end=\"2881\">Universit\u00e9 Claude Bernard Lyon<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2887\" data-end=\"2895\">CNRS<\/strong>. This combination of materials science, electronics, and clinical expertise substantially increases the chances of real-world implementation.<\/p><p data-start=\"3039\" data-end=\"3555\">Such ambitious endeavors require strong support, provided by <strong data-start=\"3100\" data-end=\"3118\">EIC Pathfinder<\/strong>, an initiative of the European Innovation Council dedicated to visionary ideas with disruptive potential. The program focuses on the earliest stages of R&amp;D\u2014from conceptual exploration to initial experimental validation. Under the Open scheme, projects can receive up to <strong data-start=\"3389\" data-end=\"3406\">EUR 3 million<\/strong>, covering <strong data-start=\"3417\" data-end=\"3443\">100% of eligible costs<\/strong>. It is the first step on the European innovation pathway, leading toward the Transition and Accelerator phases.<\/p><p data-start=\"3557\" data-end=\"4033\">As emphasized by <strong data-start=\"3574\" data-end=\"3597\">Prof. Jaros\u0142aw Bosy<\/strong>, Director of \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT, the Pathfinder grant represents far more than financial support:<br data-start=\"3695\" data-end=\"3698\" \/>\u201cThis is one of the most important achievements in applied research at the international level. It demonstrates that our institute is building its reputation not only in Poland, but also\u2014above all\u2014across Europe. The potential of our laboratory, capable of transforming basic science into technological prototypes, has been recognized.\u201d<\/p><p data-start=\"4035\" data-end=\"4427\">Fundamental science\u2014often overlooked outside the academic sphere\u2014played a key role here. It allowed the institute to develop competencies now sought after in international projects.
