The project was conducted in collaboration with <strong data-start=\"863\" data-end=\"897\">Prof. Anna Ziomkiewicz-Wichary<\/strong> of Jagiellonian University in Krak\u00f3w.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9e657f1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9e657f1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Changes in Breast Milk<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-813ff29 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"813ff29\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"973\" data-end=\"1191\">Researchers examined 103 mothers and their infants, analyzing breast milk composition\u2014specifically epigenetic regulators and fatty acids\u2014and comparing women with different levels of adverse childhood experiences (ACE).<\/p><p data-start=\"1193\" data-end=\"1304\">The results clearly show that the milk of mothers who experienced more traumatic events in childhood contained:<\/p><ul><li data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1546\"><strong data-start=\"1308\" data-end=\"1347\">Higher levels of specific microRNAs<\/strong>, which may influence the development of the infant\u2019s immune, nervous, and metabolic systems.<\/li><li data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1546\"><strong data-start=\"1445\" data-end=\"1497\">Lower concentrations of medium-chain fatty acids<\/strong>, which reduce the nutritional value of the milk.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1548\" data-end=\"1761\">Moreover, these alterations correlated with temperament characteristics observed in infants at <strong data-start=\"1643\" data-end=\"1662\">5 and 12 months<\/strong> of age and remained significant even after accounting for maternal postpartum depression symptoms.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0effa9b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0effa9b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Biomarkers of Lived Experience<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fad5298 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fad5298\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1807\" data-end=\"2114\"><em data-start=\"1807\" data-end=\"1990\">\u201cOur findings show that human milk is not only a source of nutrients but also a complex carrier of epigenetic signals shaped by mothers\u2019 life experiences\u2014even those from childhood,\u201d<\/em> says <strong data-start=\"1996\" data-end=\"2020\">Weronika Tomaszewska<\/strong> of \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT, the paper\u2019s first author, who worked on the project for several years.<\/p><p data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2461\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Her supervisor, <strong data-start=\"2132\" data-end=\"2150\">Dr. Ali Jawaid<\/strong>, adds:<br data-start=\"2157\" data-end=\"2160\" \/><em data-start=\"2160\" data-end=\"2461\" data-is-last-node=\"\">\u201cMicroRNAs in breast milk may serve as biomarkers of lived experiences in humans and could predict the transmission of behaviors across generations.
