Scientists worldwide are working to improve their durability and performance, while also exploring new fields of application.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ce7b48d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"ce7b48d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e86394 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"8e86394\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-25735fd e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"25735fd\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f0f0cf7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f0f0cf7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"564\" data-end=\"1124\">Research led by <strong data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"601\">Dr Somnath Mahato<\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/port.lukasiewicz.gov.pl\/en\/rd-centers\/materials-science-engineering-center\/photonic-materials-research-group\/\"><strong>Photonics Materials Research Group<\/strong><\/a> not only enhances the structural stability of perovskites but also opens the door to their innovative use in patient care. The scientist has developed a <strong data-start=\"799\" data-end=\"832\">flexible perovskite-based LED<\/strong> that emits light capable of accelerating wound healing. While standard treatment takes around 30 days, this solution could reduce recovery time to <strong data-start=\"980\" data-end=\"999\">15 days or less<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1003\" \/>The device can be integrated into a flexible substrate and worn like a medical patch\u2014regardless of the injury\u2019s location.<\/p><p data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1441\">Dr Mahato joined \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT under the <strong data-start=\"1172\" data-end=\"1189\">POLONEZ BIS 2<\/strong> programme to develop flexible LEDs for biomedical applications. Somnath Mahato <br>from Photonic Materials Research Group<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d54c8b6 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d54c8b6\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9efa640 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9efa640\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Light that heals<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b814ad6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b814ad6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1941\">The current direction of Dr Mahato\u2019s research goes far beyond traditional perovskite applications.<br data-start=\"1572\" data-end=\"1575\" \/>\u201cOur concept is inspired by a 2017 <em data-start=\"1610\" data-end=\"1619\">Science<\/em> article showing that wound healing progresses faster during the day than at night, because light supports regeneration,\u201d he explains. \u201cI am focusing on the emission of different colours of light, especially red and near-infrared, which\u2014according to medical research\u2014can accelerate healing and have other biomedical uses.\u201d<\/p><p data-start=\"1943\" data-end=\"2090\">Perovskite-based \u201clight patches\u201d could be particularly beneficial for older adults, patients with diabetes, and athletes in need of rapid recovery.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-89d062e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"89d062e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Stable quantum dots<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cc15221 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cc15221\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2126\" data-end=\"2453\">Researchers are working to achieve the right intensity and duration of light emission, with a focus on red and near-infrared wavelengths, which penetrate tissues more deeply than blue or green light. Biomedical uses of perovskites are emerging\u2014until recently these materials were associated primarily with display technologies.<\/p><p data-start=\"2455\" data-end=\"3011\">Within an international collaboration, Dr Mahato and fellow scientists have developed a method for producing <strong data-start=\"2564\" data-end=\"2587\">stable quantum dots<\/strong> with bright red light emission. The team created a new synthesis process in which part of the bromine atoms were replaced with iodine and introduced specific materials-engineering techniques, increasing the brightness of emitted light by <strong data-start=\"2826\" data-end=\"2839\">up to 80%<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"2840\" data-end=\"2843\" \/>They also analysed structural defects affecting conductivity and stability\u2014finding that when properly controlled, such defects can actually facilitate charge transport.<\/p><p data-start=\"3013\" data-end=\"3373\">These advances pave the way for new flexible, durable and efficient perovskite materials\u2014not only for foldable displays and next-generation electronics but potentially also for <strong data-start=\"3190\" data-end=\"3228\">biomedical light-emitting bandages<\/strong>. The topic has already gained attention in international scientific and industry media, including <em data-start=\"3327\" data-end=\"3337\">Phys.org<\/em>, <em data-start=\"3339\" data-end=\"3356\">Perovskite-Info<\/em>, and <em data-start=\"3362\" data-end=\"3372\">Nanowerk<\/em>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-008883a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"008883a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">TITAN \u2013 a microscope that sees atoms<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3a6234d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3a6234d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"3426\" data-end=\"3822\">A key tool in this research is the <strong data-start=\"3461\" data-end=\"3509\">TITAN KRIOS transmission electron microscope<\/strong> at \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT, which enables the observation of materials at the scale of individual atoms. Operating equipment of this class requires deep expertise.<br data-start=\"3668\" data-end=\"3671\" \/>\u201cCalibration alone takes several days, and sample preparation even longer,\u201d says <strong data-start=\"3752\" data-end=\"3776\">Dr Sebastian Arabasz<\/strong>, electron microscopist at \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT.<\/p><p data-start=\"3824\" data-end=\"4169\">Until recently, this microscope was the only instrument of its kind in Poland. It operates in a dedicated building with a floating floor and a water-cooled wall system.<br data-start=\"3992\" data-end=\"3995\" \/>\u201cElectron microscopy is approaching the physical limits of what can be seen\u2014no one will observe finer details.
