The lecture entitled \u201cFunctional architecture of neuronal circuits\u201d<\/strong> will take place on Thursday, 09\/01\/2025<\/strong>, from 14:00 to 15:00<\/strong>, in Building A, Auditorium (1st floor)<\/strong>.<\/p>

After the seminar, Dr. Karalis<\/strong> will host a Q&A session for early-career researchers<\/strong>. This will be an opportunity to seek advice on accelerating a research career and addressing potential challenges.<\/p>

Dr. Karalis and his team have investigated how neuromodulators regulate the activity of amygdala circuits across different behavioral states, including exploration, sleep, reward, and aversive learning. Their research focuses on the amygdala<\/strong>, a brain region responsible for processing emotional stimuli, which receives input from major neuromodulators such as dopamine, acetylcholine, serotonin, and noradrenaline<\/strong>. Using state-of-the-art sensors and advanced imaging techniques, the team has been able to characterize the dynamics of neuromodulator release and its impact on neuronal activity during various behaviors.<\/p>

Dr. Nikolas Karalis<\/strong> is a researcher at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM)<\/strong>. He completed his studies in applied mathematics and physics at the National Technical University of Athens<\/strong>, and subsequently transitioned to neurobiology. He earned his PhD at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich<\/strong>, where he studied the role of respiration in neuronal dynamics. As a postdoctoral researcher and later a team leader at the FMI in Basel<\/strong>, he focused on the role of neuromodulators in coordinating amygdala activity across different behaviors.<\/p>

The lecture can be attended on-site at \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT<\/strong> (ul. Stab\u0142owicka 147, Wroc\u0142aw) or online via the SAME-Match-Treat platform<\/strong>.<\/p>
