Meanwhile, <strong data-start=\"349\" data-end=\"366\">Dr Ali Jawaid<\/strong>, as part of the <strong data-start=\"383\" data-end=\"405\">EMPATHY consortium<\/strong>, will analyze brain\u2013body interactions underlying eating disorders. Disruptions to this interaction \u2013 caused by genetic factors, environmental stress or lifestyle \u2013 can lead to metabolic and psychiatric disorders affecting millions of people worldwide.<\/p><p data-start=\"1059\" data-end=\"1451\">Research on brain\u2013body interactions in the context of disease may contribute to the development of better treatments and prevention strategies, supporting brain health and improving quality of life. The <strong data-start=\"1816\" data-end=\"1830\">AutoHealth<\/strong> project focuses on a process known as <strong data-start=\"1869\" data-end=\"1882\">autophagy<\/strong>, which helps maintain cellular health. Autophagy allows cells to remove and recycle damaged components, playing a key role in maintaining cellular balance and stress responses. Significant financial support will enable Dr Contu to continue this research.<\/p><p data-start=\"2139\" data-end=\"2882\">The <strong data-start=\"2143\" data-end=\"2168\">AutoHealth consortium<\/strong> is an international team led by <strong data-start=\"2201\" data-end=\"2222\">Dr Nils C. Gassen<\/strong> from the University Hospital Bonn (Germany), and includes <strong data-start=\"2281\" data-end=\"2300\">Dr Mouna Maroun<\/strong> (University of Haifa, Israel), <strong data-start=\"2332\" data-end=\"2354\">Dr Mathias Schmidt<\/strong> (Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, Germany), <strong data-start=\"2402\" data-end=\"2425\">Dr Hale Yapici Eser<\/strong> (Ko\u00e7 University, Turkey), and <strong data-start=\"2456\" data-end=\"2475\">Dr Raluca Contu<\/strong> from \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT (Poland). The scientists will use advanced research techniques to examine how early-life stress affects physiology and metabolism over time and throughout the human lifespan. Research led by <strong data-start=\"3634\" data-end=\"3651\">Dr Ali Jawaid<\/strong>, head of the <strong data-start=\"3665\" data-end=\"3725\">Translational Neuropsychiatry Research Group (TREND Lab)<\/strong> at \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT, will significantly deepen understanding of the causes of these disorders. The <strong data-start=\"3827\" data-end=\"3849\">EMPATHY consortium<\/strong> assumes that maternal metabolic health during pregnancy and breastfeeding influences offspring brain development, particularly in regions regulating feeding behavior, thereby increasing the risk of eating disorders.<\/p><p data-start=\"4067\" data-end=\"4298\">A key role in this process is played by immune cells of the brain known as <strong data-start=\"4142\" data-end=\"4155\">microglia<\/strong>. Microglia are highly sensitive to nutritional signaling and can influence the development of neuronal circuits that control feeding behavior.<\/p><p data-start=\"4300\" data-end=\"4792\">The project will examine how metabolic insults alter neuron\u2013microglia interactions in the developing mouse brain and how these changes affect feeding behavior. In parallel, clinical studies will be conducted, including those involving mothers and children.
