Meanwhile, <strong data-start=\"451\" data-end=\"473\">Kamila Nowak<\/strong>\u00a0is carrying out a project dedicated to novel semiconductor materials for next-generation electronics.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bcb10ae e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"bcb10ae\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a671125 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a671125\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Age-dependent mechanisms of ALS<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e1ecb7b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"e1ecb7b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-578a7a8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"578a7a8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"332\" data-end=\"777\">Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a severe, progressive neurological disease in which the gradual degeneration of neurons responsible for motor control occurs. The disease leads to increasing muscle weakness and, consequently, to paralysis and respiratory failure. The risk of developing ALS increases significantly with age, and despite the growing importance of ALS for healthcare systems, effective treatment methods remain very limited.<\/p><p data-start=\"779\" data-end=\"1039\">\u201cUnderstanding how aging affects the development of ALS is crucial for the search for new therapeutic possibilities,\u201d emphasizes Dr. Agnieszka Krzy\u017cosiak, Head of <a href=\"https:\/\/port.lukasiewicz.gov.pl\/en\/rd-centers\/life-sciences-and-biotechnology-center\/neurodegeneration-mechanisms-research-group\/\">the Neurodegeneration Mechanisms Research Group<\/a> at <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">\u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 PORT<\/span><\/span>.<\/p><p data-start=\"1041\" data-end=\"1591\">The project carried out under the OPUS 29 call aims to develop new human ALS models that will make it possible to study the disease in the context of cellular aging. Instead of animal models or models based on induced pluripotent stem cells reverted to very early stages of development, the research will use modern methods of direct cell \u201creprogramming\u201d of patient-derived cells into motor neurons. This approach makes it possible to preserve the so-called \u201cage trace,\u201d which plays an important role in the development of neurodegenerative diseases.<\/p><p data-start=\"1593\" data-end=\"2170\">In the developed models, advanced proteomic analyses will be conducted to identify age-dependent molecular signatures characteristic of ALS, as well as new potential disease modifiers. Selected factors will be subjected to further functional validation, and the research will be extended to include analysis of the role of astrocytes in the development of neuronal pathology. The project carried out by Kamila Nowak under the PRELUDIUM 24 call focuses on research into a novel semiconductor that may find applications in electronics and spintronics. The goal of the researcher from <a href=\"https:\/\/port.lukasiewicz.gov.pl\/en\/rd-centers\/materials-science-engineering-center\/advanced-semiconductor-epitaxy-research-group\/\">the Advanced Semiconductor Epitaxy Research Group\u00a0<\/a>is to create a material that combines electrical and magnetic properties within a single system.<\/p><p data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"1114\">As part of the project, thin semiconductor layers are produced using an advanced plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy technique, a method that allows the material to be \u201cbuilt\u201d layer by layer with very high precision. This enables precise control over the material composition and its doping.
