    Genomics for Poland (G4PL)<\/strong> is a strategic research and development project implemented by a consortium of 12 leading Polish scientific and research institutions. Its aim is to create a nationwide, modern infrastructure for advanced genomic research.<\/p>

    The project addresses a key gap in the national R&D system \u2014 the absence of a coherent, interoperable, and scalable network enabling the generation, processing, storage, and sharing of genomic data in accordance with European and international standards. Progress in precision medicine and the development of modern diagnostic and therapeutic tools are now inseparably linked with advances in genomics. Genomics not only enables the identification of individual genetic predispositions and the selection of personalized therapies but also allows the prediction of adverse drug reactions and supports national health policy.<\/p>

    A crucial role in this regard is played by population genomics, based on high-throughput sequencing of genomes from large and representative groups of citizens. In EU member states, such development takes place within integrated infrastructure and research programmes such as Genome of Europe or the 1+MG initiative. Participation in these initiatives requires member states to possess a coherent and scalable infrastructure: sequencing laboratories, biobanks, bioinformatics systems, national data repositories, and harmonized legal, ethical, and quality frameworks. Poland currently lacks such infrastructure, which results in weak population representation in European databases, limited accuracy of clinical algorithms, hindered technology transfer, and low efficiency in the use of data in diagnostics, research, and industrial applications.<\/p>

    The G4PL project aims to establish a comprehensive genomic infrastructure of strategic importance for the Polish science, healthcare, and innovation system. The project will create a nationwide, interoperable network of accredited sequencing laboratories, a national data repository, and a distributed biobank network. This infrastructure will support both scientific and industrial activities \u2014 including the development of innovative solutions in personalized medicine, bioinformatics, biotechnology, and IT. The project includes infrastructural activities (procurement and installation of research equipment, construction works), IT development (analytical tools and databases), and organizational measures (standardization of procedures, ensuring interoperability and compliance with GDPR and FAIR principles). The project\u2019s implementation will enable the effective use of genomic data in research, diagnostics, and industry.<\/p>
