Piezoelectricity in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) is receiving increasing attention due to their unique atomic-scale structure and high surface-to-thickness ratio. The piezoelectric effect\u2014and thus piezoelectric materials\u2014has applications in sensors, as well as in systems for energy generation and conversion.<\/p><p data-start=\"1247\" data-end=\"1562\">Theoretical and experimental studies have estimated piezoelectric coefficients of approximately 0.2\u20131 pm\u00b7V\u207b\u00b9 for graphene and hBN, and 2\u201310 pm\u00b7V\u207b\u00b9 for most TMDCs. Another interesting category of 2D materials is Janus monolayers, which may exhibit stronger piezoelectricity than their conventional TMDC counterparts.<\/p><p data-start=\"1564\" data-end=\"2061\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">We hypothesize that a transition exists between piezoelectricity in MoX\u2082 and apparent piezoelectricity in MO\u2082, and that this state depends on the composition of the mixed M(X\u2093O\u2081\u208b\u2093)\u2082 layer. Within the project, we aim to synthesize MO\u2082-type materials with defined chalcogen content using CVD and subsequently examine their piezoelectric response.
