Director

Profesor Jarosław Bosy, PhD, DSc, Eng.

Experience

Since December 2015, I have held the position of Full Professor at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. From 2016 to 2020, I served as Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, and from September 1, 2020, to August 31, 2024, I was the Rector of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. As of September 3, 2024, I have assumed the role of Acting Director at the Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development.

I specialize in research on the precise processing of GNSS satellite data, which is used for Earth and atmospheric monitoring within the framework of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS). I have had the opportunity to complete several scientific internships, including in Greece, Switzerland, and Italy. I am the author or co-author of over 90 scientific publications. My bibliometric data includes an h-index of 16 with over 990 citations in the Scopus database and an h-index of 24 with over 2000 citations in Google Scholar. Throughout my academic career, I have led numerous research projects funded by KBN, MNiSW, NCN, NCBiR, and H2020. I have also participated in international initiatives such as COST actions and grants from the European Space Agency (ESA). In 2010, I had the honor of receiving the Honorary Badge “For Merits to Geodesy and Cartography” for implementing the “Multifunctional Precise Satellite Positioning System ASG-EUPOS” project.

I am also an expert in evaluating national research projects for the National Science Centre (twice chairing the panels) and international projects such as H2020 for the European Research Council (ERC, I served on the PE10 panel) and the European GNSS Agency (GSA). I have frequently reviewed projects for grant agencies in Austria (FWF) and Germany (DFG).

A project’s value is measured by whether it gives rise to another project.

Education

I graduated from the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (formerly Agricultural University of Wrocław) in 1988. In 1996, I obtained a PhD in technical sciences from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, where I also completed my habilitation in 2006. In 2014, I was awarded the title of Professor by the President of Poland.

It’s not what comes before my name, but what comes after it that matters.

Passion

Satellite geodesy is my passion, both professionally and personally (thousands of kilometers traveled annually on a bike equipped with GNSS navigation). I serve on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Geodesy, the official scientific journal of the International Association of Geodesy, and I am a member of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Committee of Geodesy of the Polish Academy of Sciences (where I currently serve as chair), the State Council for Geodesy and Cartography, and the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Every good thing ends, so that something even better can begin.

Priorities for my Term

For me, the Łukasiewicz Research Network is primarily about integrating and expanding existing potential – both materially and intellectually. I believe that the academic potential of Wrocław, including Łukasiewicz – PORT and its business surroundings, is not yet fully realized, which can and must change. I am excited about the responsibility entrusted to me in this role.

We must adapt to the market, not the market to us.

About Łukasiewicz

Since 2019, the Wrocław-based Łukasiewicz – PORT, operating within the Łukasiewicz Research Network, has the potential to become a hub for groundbreaking discoveries whose results will serve people in the form of healthier, safer, more effective, and more accessible products and services.

If people have value, it’s worth trusting them.
If people are driven by opportunistic ambitions,
trust them anyway so they can discover
they have the capacity to change.
