P4Health Seminar: Lecture by Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska

Łukasiewicz – PORT Polish Centre for Technology Development invites you to a lecture by Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska, group leader and Director of IMol – the International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The lecture entitled “Protein translocation into mitochondria under stress” will take place on Tuesday, 23 January 2025, from 14:30 to 15:30.

After the lecture, a meeting with Early-Career Researchers will be held in the form of a Q&A session from 15:30 to 16:00. This will be an excellent opportunity to talk with Prof. Chacińska about her research, receive advice on building a scientific career, and learn how to avoid pitfalls and bottlenecks in research work.

About the speaker

Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska graduated from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw. She obtained her PhD in biochemistry at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Magdalena Boguta, and later earned her habilitation degree at the same institute. She completed her postdoctoral training with Prof. Nikolaus Pfanner and subsequently held a junior group leader position at the University of Freiburg, Germany.

Since 2009, she has been the head of the Mitochondrial Biogenesis Laboratory, established at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, and currently operating within IMol PAS.

Her scientific interests focus on cellular biochemistry and molecular aspects of cell biology, including the biogenesis, transport, and degradation of mitochondrial proteins, as well as mitochondrial dysfunction leading to disease. Over the past decade, one of Prof. Chacińska’s key achievements has been the identification of interactions between defective mitochondrial protein import and other mitochondrial deficiencies, and cellular protein homeostasis, together with the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes.

She is the recipient of numerous awards and prestigious grants, including the ReMedy project funded by the Foundation for Polish Science under the International Research Agendas Programme, the Welcome Grant from the Foundation for Polish Science, and the MAESTRO Grant from the National Science Centre. She is a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, an elected member of EMBO, Academia Europaea, and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. She was awarded the title of Professor by the President of the Republic of Poland in 2014.

First seminar in the P4Health – Teaming Project series

This seminar is part of the P4Health – Teaming for Excellence lecture series, funded under the Horizon Europe programme. The P4Health project aims to advance personalized medicine in Poland by integrating preclinical and clinical research, bringing laboratory discoveries closer to medical practice. The initiative strengthens collaboration with leading European partners and seeks to introduce breakthrough innovations in medicine.
