Creation and Development of an Integrated System for the Analysis and Management of Structured Clinical and Multiomic Data Based on Artificial Intelligence in Civilization Diseases – ABMPATH

Project funded by the Medical Research Agency from State Budget funds under the call “Creation and Development of Regional Centers for Digital Medicine.”

Project No.: 2023/ABM/02/00005 – 00
Project value: PLN 29,989,575.00
Funding for Ł-PORT: PLN 4,456,200.00
Project duration: 01/08/2023 – 31/07/2028
Project Manager: Associate Professor Patrycja Gazińska, PhD

The main goal of the project titled “Creation and Development of an Integrated System for the Analysis and Management of Structured Clinical and Multiomic Data Based on Artificial Intelligence in Civilization Diseases” is to establish a Regional Center for Digital Medicine (RCMC) – a structure that integrates databases and resources (personnel, infrastructure, and software) of:

  • 4th Military Clinical Hospital (4WSK) together with the Clinical Research Support Center (CWBK) – Consortium Leader

  • Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT (Polish Center for Technology Development; Biobank)

  • Wrocław University of Science and Technology (PWr)

  • Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences (IITD PAN)

The main task of the project will be the standardization, acquisition, and processing of high-quality medical data for scientific and analytical purposes, as well as ensuring the secure exchange and analysis of structured data. These analyses aim to improve preventive, prognostic, diagnostic, and therapeutic processes, thereby contributing to medical advancement. The activities within the RCMC (ABMPATH) will leverage the unique, multidisciplinary expertise of the consortium partners.

The core innovation of the project lies in the development and implementation of the RCMC IT system, which will provide a baseline solution encompassing all functional requirements defined for the RCMC standard.

The developed system will offer users access through an online interface, allowing for continuous expansion of RCMC functionalities, particularly in the area of developing new analytical tools supporting the growth of digital medicine. Furthermore, the system will enable data exchange within the RCMC network and integration with the central unit at the Medical Research Agency (CMC).

The development of intelligent tools and advanced AI algorithms will contribute to transformative changes in medicine and translational biomedical research. Breakthrough progress in medical data analysis has opened new opportunities for improving diagnosis, treatment, and patient care—strongly justifying the creation of this RCMC.

As part of the project, in cooperation with the 4th Military Clinical Hospital in Wrocław and other consortium partners, the Łukasiewicz – PORT Biobank will establish a digitalization center for histopathological specimens. This center will serve as a foundation for implementing and developing artificial intelligence in pathology, particularly in the field of oncological research. In collaboration with the Hospital and Wrocław University of Science and Technology, AI tools will be developed to identify histopathological signatures with prognostic significance.
