Project

Identification and Characterization of Viral and Antibiotic-Resistant Bacterial Infections in Oncology Patients – BacViroBank

Funded from the state budget

Targeted subsidy granted to institutions operating within the Łukasiewicz Research Network

Contract number: 6/Ł-PORT/CŁ/2021
Project value: PLN 1,367,443.75
Total funding: PLN 1,024,818.22
Project implementation period: 01/01/2022 – 28/02/2025
Project leader: Dr. Anna Paziewska-Harris

The project assumes the creation of a collection of viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens, including alert pathogens and class 3 pathogens. As part of the project implementation, their preliminary characterization will be carried out, along with the determination of their sensitivity to a broad panel of antiviral drugs, antibiotics, and antifungal agents.

The main objectives of this project are: to initiate the systematic collection of data on viral, bacterial, and fungal infections in oncology patients; to collect biological materials obtained from patients (in cooperation with the Biobank at Łukasiewicz–PORT); and to establish a bank of viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens enabling their characterization and further research once the Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory becomes operational.
