The scientific goal of this research project is to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying Huntington’s disease (HD) pathology in both neurons and astrocytes. The study may contribute to the identification of novel therapeutic targets not only for Huntington’s disease but also for other neurodegenerative disorders.
Under the supervision of Agnieszka Marta Krzyżosiak, PhD, the research team will investigate the effects of genetic manipulations targeting specific genes involved in protein quality control, which correlate with HD pathology. The aim is to identify new, effective molecular modulators capable of alleviating or reversing Huntington’s disease mechanisms.
Subsequently, the project will assess the role of selected genes in neuro-glial interactions, both in mixed 3D co-culture systems and in vivo models.
The outcomes of this project are expected to provide valuable insights into cellular communication between neurons and glial cells and may pave the way for innovative therapeutic approaches in neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s.
