Seminar From Neuroscience to Science Policy

On June 26 at 2:00 PM, Łukasiewicz – PORT will host the next seminar in the SAME–NeuroID project series. The guest speaker will be Prof. Renaud B. Jolivet from Maastricht University – a renowned expert in neural engineering and computation.

In his talk, Prof. Jolivet will present recent findings on the role of specific types of glial cells—such as microglia, oligodendrocytes, and astrocytes—in modulating neuronal activity. While glial cells have gained increasing prominence in neuroscience and neurology over the past decades, a clear conceptual framework explaining their influence on neurons is still missing. According to Prof. Jolivet, this lack of understanding is one of the main obstacles to progress in modern neuroscience.

Prof. Jolivet is based at the Maastricht Centre for Systems Biology and also holds an affiliation with CERN—the European particle physics laboratory. His research focuses on NeuroAI and advanced neurotechnologies for brain-computer interfaces. In the second part of his seminar, he will share insights from his career path, which has taken him from fundamental neuroscience to involvement in science policy and security.
