Dr. hab. Witold Konopka from Łukasiewicz – PORT has been appointed a member of the Neurobiology Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the term beginning in 2024. This selection reflects recognition of his achievements and contributions to the development of neurobiology.
The Scientific Committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences represent academic communities and scientific disciplines while also serving as advisory bodies. They bring together experts from various fields, creating a space for intellectual exchange and fostering relationships among researchers. Their objectives include promoting science through debates, discussions, and scientific conferences, as well as providing expertise essential to public discourse.
Dr. hab. Witold Konopka has been the Leader of the Neuroplasticity and Metabolism Research Group at Łukasiewicz – PORT since March 2021. Previously, he conducted research at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg and served as Deputy Director of the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, where he also headed the Animal Facility Laboratory. His research focuses on mechanisms by which the brain regulates metabolism, which are relevant to combating eating disorders and obesity. Dr. hab. Konopka is also the coordinator of the Horizon Europe project SAME-NeuroID, which aims to develop shared standards for creating and utilizing models of neuropsychiatric disorders.
