High School

For high school students, workshops of a high substantive level have been prepared, enabling them to develop scientific interests and prepare for further education. Participants work with modern laboratory equipment, learning research methods used in molecular biology, microbiology, and analytical chemistry.

This is an ideal option for young people planning a future related to the natural sciences or medicine. These workshops are an excellent complement to school education, inspiring young explorers to further deepen their knowledge of the natural sciences.

BASF ECMS Academy

The BASF ECMS Academy is an educational workshop program designed to introduce young people to the fascinating world of chemistry and technology, and to show that environmental protection truly is in our hands.

Students will learn what a major challenge air protection is and how the processes of catalysis and the operation of a car catalytic converter help meet that challenge. They will prepare a sample of a car catalytic converter in the chemistry laboratory using a formula provided by BASF ECMS.

Partner workshops

Heart Anatomy

The heart — the center of the circulatory system that pumps the blood flowing through our veins and arteries every day. During the workshop, everyone will have the opportunity to hold a real heart and, using a scalpel, explore its internal structure and trace the pathways of the pulmonary and systemic circulations. Participants will learn how the circulatory system works and what blood pressure and oxygen saturation are.

Colorful Chemical Reactions

Chemical reactions can take many forms. From completely dissolving in water, through gas release and intense foaming, to the precipitation of colorful and visually striking solids. The workshop will focus on the latter two cases. Participants will combine substances to produce colorful compounds in test tubes. At the end, they will try to guess what happened in the test tubes by analyzing the reactions and writing the appropriate chemical equation.

Chemistry on the Plate

Participants will discover food ingredients in an unusual way and learn that they do not need to fear “E-number” substances. They will examine the differences between synthetic and natural colorants. Finally, they will encapsulate different flavors in edible spheres and use them to create molecular cocktails according to their own compositions!

Who Ate the Donut? – The Perfect Crime

In this detective-style workshop, participants step into the shoes of forensic scientists. By analyzing fingerprints, shoeprints, and blood groups, they will uncover who among a group of friends is guilty of eating donuts meant for everyone. A workshop full of excitement, teamwork, and scientific investigation!

Lung Dissection

Do a smoker’s lungs really differ from healthy ones? Participants will see with their own eyes the differences between them and how tar substances affect our health. They will also learn the structure and functions of the respiratory system and use this knowledge during the dissection of real pig lungs. This workshop is intended for participants who are not afraid to look inside the human body!

Note: the class will be conducted using pig lungs.

The project is co-funded by the State budget, granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Republic of Poland under the program “Social Responsibility of Science II”, pursuant to agreement no. POPUL/SN/0336/2023/01 dated October 9, 2023.
