Łukasiewicz – PORT has been identified as one of the potential locations for the planned European Space Agency (ESA) Technology Centre in Poland. The candidacy of Wrocław and the Lower Silesia region was officially endorsed in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Donald Tusk and to the European Space Agency.
The document was signed on 14 January 2026 during a meeting at Wrocław City Hall, attended by representatives of public administration, local governments, academia, and the business sector. The joint letter of support is a clear signal of regional unity and readiness to host an investment of strategic importance for the development of advanced technologies and security.
The planned ESA Technology Centre is intended to become one of the country’s key research and development hubs. Its activities will focus on the development of space technologies, particularly in the areas of space security and dual-use civil–military solutions. The Centre is also expected to support Polish companies and research institutions in gaining access to international programmes and contracts implemented within the framework of ESA.
The significance of this initiative is highlighted by Prof. Jarosław Bosy, Director of Łukasiewicz – PORT:
“This is a project that can genuinely change Wrocław’s position on the map of European research and innovation, attracting international teams, advanced projects, and new partnerships between science and industry.”
Wrocław and the Lower Silesia region have a strong scientific and technological base, including a well-developed academic environment, research institutes, and a dynamically growing sector of innovative enterprises – strengths that were emphasized in the letter of support. Another important factor is the region’s experience in international cooperation, including with partners from Germany and the Czech Republic, which fosters the development of cross-border projects.
Łukasiewicz – PORT was indicated as one of the potential locations for the Centre due to its modern research infrastructure and competencies enabling the implementation of advanced research and development projects in cooperation with industry and international partners. The document also emphasized the region’s readiness to provide conditions allowing for the efficient launch of the new centre’s operations.
The process of selecting the location of the ESA Technology Centre remains open and is currently at the stage of analyses and consultations. However, the signed letter of support confirms the determination of local authorities, the scientific community, and the business sector to strengthen Poland’s role in the European space sector and to further develop the country’s research and innovation potential.
