Five applications with a total value exceeding PLN 223 million were submitted to Łukasiewicz – PORT as part of the third call of the Virtual Research Institute (WIB) program.
The call for proposals in the third WIB competition was open from 02/10/2023 to 13/10/2023. Research teams employed at Polish scientific and research institutions were eligible to participate. Within the framework of the call, five applications were submitted to Łukasiewicz – PORT, the Managing Entity of the WIB program, with a total value of over PLN 223 million. Scientists from 14 scientific and research institutions were involved in the preparation of the submitted proposals.
The application evaluation procedure is currently underway and will consist of several stages. First, the submitted projects will undergo formal verification. Subsequently, an international panel of experts will conduct a substantive evaluation, covering both scientific and business aspects. Particular emphasis will be placed on the commercialization potential of the expected research outcomes (innovative technologies, drugs, and therapies), which may be implemented in production and contribute to the development of Polish science.
The announcement of the results of the third Virtual Research Institute call is planned for 03/2024.
The bar in the competition is set very high. In previous calls, only one research team was selected, led by Prof. Dr. hab. Andrzej Dziembowski, implementing the project entitled “Horizon of Excellence in the Applications of Matrix RNA in Immuno-Oncology [HERO]”. The HERO project received the highest evaluation from experts due to the combination of high scientific value and strong commercial potential of the expected results.
