New Director of Łukasiewicz – PORT

Łukasiewicz – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development has a new director. On 14 February 2023, the position was assumed by Dr hab. Eng. Alicja Bachmatiuk. The previous director, Dr Andrzej Dybczyński, has been appointed President of the Łukasiewicz Research Network.

Dr hab. Eng. Alicja Bachmatiuk has been associated with the Wrocław-based institute for over 10 years as a scientist and manager, and since 2020 as Director for Research and Development. From 14 February 2023, until her formal appointment to the new position, she will serve as Acting Director of Łukasiewicz – PORT.

The new director of the institute is an active researcher. Since 2013, she has conducted research on the synthesis and characterization of two-dimensional materials, including graphene-based materials, in cooperation with Polish and international research institutions. She obtained her habilitation degree (Dr hab.) in chemical sciences from the Warsaw University of Technology in 2017. She worked, among others, at IFW Dresden (Germany) as a Marie Curie RTN and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation fellow (2009–2012), and as a Research Professor at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, South Korea (2013–2015). Since 2015, she has held the position of Visiting Professor at Soochow University in Suzhou, China. She is a recipient of the Ministry of Education scholarship for outstanding young scientists (2016). In 2018, she received the Prime Minister’s Award for highly rated achievements that formed the basis for the award of her habilitation degree. She is the author of numerous scientific publications and the principal investigator of research grants funded by the National Science Centre, the Foundation for Polish Science, and the National Centre for Research and Development.

The priority area of activity of Łukasiewicz – PORT is the creation and development of new technologies for industry. The center’s research activity focuses on materials engineering and biotechnology, with research carried out by groups organized into three centers: Materials Engineering, Life Sciences and Biotechnology, and Population Diagnostics. Each year, Łukasiewicz – PORT organizes international scientific conferences attended by outstanding specialists from around the world. The Wrocław-based institute also serves as the Managing Entity of the Virtual Research Institute program, under which scientific research on new cancer therapies is financed and conducted by research teams selected through competitive calls.
