The candidate will join the Quantitative Virology Research Group, participating in the project funded by the Polish National Science Center (NCN) SONANA BIS. Our laboratory invites applications for a fully funded PhD position starting from March 2026. We are recruiting applicants with broad research interests in virology and molecular biology. An NCN scholarship may be awarded to a person who meets any of the following criteria:

a) is a student of a first-cycle, second-cycle, or long-cycle master's degree program at a university in Poland;

b) is a participant in doctoral studies;

c) is a doctoral student at a doctoral school;

The candidate will be involved in a project aimed at exploring the molecular underpinnings of HIV antisense transcripts linked to its latency. This will involve manipulating barcoded wildtype HIV and employing various 'omics'-based technologies to generate multi-dimensional datasets. These datasets will facilitate an in-depth study of the molecular mechanisms dictating the fate of a provirus (either active replication or latent infection), as well as the progression of HIV latency. Furthermore, the study will assess how common gamma chain cytokines influence the mechanistic and genomic characteristics of specific molecular microenvironments within the latent HIV reservoir, particularly regarding epigenetic memory.

The successful applicant will also participate in writing articles and grants, mentoring students, and possibly visiting collaborative laboratories abroad. Overall, the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to boost her/his scientific career in the HIV field and broaden her/his scientific community.
