Łukasiewicz – PORT will host Fantasy Days 2024
The end of August will be marked by fantastic meetings and journeys into the unknown at Łukasiewicz – PORT. All thanks to the oldest festival dedicated to fantasy in Lower Silesia, which this year, as a guest, will be held at the Pracze Campus.
“Fantasy Days” is the oldest Lower Silesian festival dedicated to fantasy. Each year, the town filled with reconstruction villages, shows and concerts is visited by about 10,000 people over the course of several festival days. The event is aimed at enthusiasts of fantasy themes in literature and film, manga, anime, board games, computer games or RPGs, as well as anyone interested in pop culture. This year’s edition will be held on August 20-25, 2024.
The organizers of the “Fantasy Days” are the Ośrodek Postaw Twórczych Zamek, Gildia Organizatorów Association and the Tadeusz Różewicz Municipal Public Library in Wroclaw. The Łukasiewicz – PORT scientific and research institute joined this group as an institutional partner in 2024.
The reason for the change of location
The change of the festival’s location is dictated by the planned renovation of the terraces and underground of OPT Zamek.
“The decision to transfer funds for the renovation of OPT Zamek was made at a session of the City Council in December 2023. We already know that PLN 5,350,000 will be allocated for this purpose. The tender will be launched today or in the next few days,” Deputy Mayor of Wroclaw Bartlomiej Ciążyński said during a press meeting at Łukasiewicz – PORT.
Łukasiewicz – PORT in a new role
The new place where the festival town will set up will be the Pracze Campus.
“Under the cooperation between OPT Zamek and Łukasiewicz – PORT, we are pleased to have decided to organize “Fantasy Days” on our campus,” Alicja Bachmatiuk, Ph.D., the Institute Director, conveyed at a meeting with journalists on April 11, 2024. “The Pracze Campus space, full of greenery and history, is conducive to organizing events that require a unique setting. “Fantasy Days” will be the first such a large undertaking, during which our Institute – the place where researchers work – will open to a wide audience, giving festival participants the opportunity to get to know the place from a different, not only scientific side,” added Alicja Bachmatiuk.
Łukasiewicz – PORT has for several years been implementing the mission of social responsibility of science, with which the idea of “Fantasy Days” corresponds perfectly.
– Science can have very many dimensions. Research, development is not everything. Equally important is the popularization of scientific achievements and science in general. This mission Łukasiewicz – PORT has been carrying out for several years, and thanks to the festival even more people will hear about it,” says Marek Staniewicz, director of the Department of Social Responsibility of Science at Łukasiewicz – PORT.
Attractions of this year’s edition
The leitmotif of “Fantasy Days” 2024 will be journeys into the unknown. Numerous contests, lectures, panel discussions, meetings with authors and influencers will await the participants, which will be held both at Łukasiewicz – PORT and Mediateka.
