Łukasiewicz – PORT Biobank Awarded BBMRI-ERIC Quality Label

During the Europe Biobank Week 2025 in Bologna, the Łukasiewicz – PORT Biobank was honored with the prestigious BBMRI-ERIC Quality Label Award 2025, which confirms that our unit operates in accordance with the highest standards of quality, transparency, ethics, and data security.

BBMRI-ERIC (Biobanking and BioMolecular resources Research Infrastructure – European Research Infrastructure Consortium) is a European organization that brings together biobanks and supports the development of biomedical research through standardization and the provision of high-quality biological data. The BBMRI-ERIC Quality Label is awarded exclusively to biobanks that have successfully passed the second-level BBMRI-ERIC audit, in compliance with ISO 20387.

In short: we meet the highest international standards in biobanking.

Congratulations go to Patrycja Gazińska, head of the Biobank at Łukasiewicz – PORT, and Monika Jarych-Szyszka, responsible for quality management, who have developed such a high standard of biobanking within our institute. At the award ceremony in Bologna, Łukasiewicz – PORT was represented by Patrycja Gazińska and Patrycja Szałapska.

Europe Biobank Week is an annual event that brings together professionals, researchers, and industry representatives from across Europe and beyond, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The future of biobanking, data sharing, ethical standards, and personalized medicine are just some of the main topics discussed during the conference.

A key condition for the development of biobanking is also raising public awareness about the storage of biological samples and emphasizing that materials donated by patients have a real impact on the advancement of medicine – especially in the field of personalized medicine.
