EU-GLIA to connect glial cell researchers across Europe
Dr Michał Ślęzak will lead Łukasiewicz – PORT’s activities within EU-GLIA, a new pan-European network of glial cell researchers established with funding from the COST programme. The funding will support conferences, training activities and scientific exchanges, while fostering collaboration between research centres across Europe.

- P4Health
The aim of the project is to establish the P4Health Centre of Excellence for Precise Phenotyping and BioDataBanking at the Łukasiewicz – PORT institute. The primary objective of the P4Health Centre is to implement the vision of personalized medicine, which has become a leading paradigm in contemporary biomedical research. This concept is now achievable thanks to the rapid development of advanced computational methods.
These tools enable detailed insight into an individual’s biomedical profile and, through artificial intelligence–based solutions for integrating large datasets, allow the tailoring of therapeutic approaches.

The European Cancer Imaging Initiative is one of the flagship projects of the European Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP). One of the goals of this plan is to make full use of the potential of data and digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) to combat cancer.
The objective of the European Cancer Imaging Initiative is to support innovation and the implementation of digital technologies in the treatment and care of cancer patients, enabling more precise and faster clinical decision-making, and improving diagnostics and therapy outcomes.

Eating disorders are complex neuropsychiatric conditions that lead to severe physical, psychological, and social consequences. Despite extensive research, their etiology remains insufficiently understood, and effective intervention strategies have yet to be developed. Increasing evidence highlights the critical role of maternal factors during the prenatal and perinatal periods—such as poor diet or obesity—in disrupting brain development in offspring and increasing the risk of eating disorders. Particular attention is directed toward the impact of a maternal high-fat diet on the development of the hypothalamus, a brain region essential for regulating appetite and metabolism.

Mental and metabolic disorders frequently co-occur, and stress is a shared risk factor for both. However, the biological mechanisms underlying this complex relationship remain poorly understood, hindering the development of effective therapies. AutoHealth is an innovative research project designed to elucidate how stress affects both the brain and the body. Central to this effort is autophagy—a key cellular process responsible for clearing and recycling damaged cellular components, essential for maintaining proper cell function. Although impaired autophagy has been linked to various psychiatric and metabolic diseases, its role in the context of stress remains largely unexplored.
