Łukasiewicz – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development is a Research Institute within the Łukasiewicz Research Network. It focuses on development of new technologies, resulting from basic and applied research, which, in turn, serve as a basis for innovative solutions for the industry. Our Institute consists of three research centers – Life Sciences & Biotechnology Center, Materials Science & Engineering Center and Center for Population Diagnostics, with access to specialized core laboratories – a combination, which allows to carry out both, scientific research and pilot studies for the industry in a comprehensive manner.

Currently we are looking for Chief Specialist – Biobanking Data Manager

The Biobanking Data Manager is responsible for the comprehensive management, integration, and monitoring of data related to the Biobank resources constituting the Clinical and Biobanking Platform (P1) at the P4Health Center of Excellence. Their primary role is to ensure the highest quality of data, secure storage, accurate analysis, and ethical sharing in compliance with quality standards and applicable legal regulations. This position is pivotal in effectively managing biobank data while balancing scientific, clinical, and operational needs. 

The Biobanking Data Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Clinical and Biobanking Platform by designing, overseeing, and maintaining databases for biological samples and associated metadata (WP2, T2.1), as well as implementing and maintaining biobanking data management systems. The scope of responsibilities also include monitoring data quality, developing, and enforcing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and completeness (D2.1, KPI16). Additionally, the role involves establishing data repositories in collaboration with clinical units and project partners to facilitate regular information exchange (KPI26) and supporting all activities essential to achieving the objectives of the P4Health project.

Key Responsibilities:

Biobank Data Management:

  • Designing, overseeing, and maintaining databases within P1 for biological samples and associated metadata (WP2, T2.1).
  • Ensuring data integrity and consistency throughout all stages, from sample collection to analysis and archiving.

Development and Implementation of IT Systems:

  • Deploying and maintaining biobank data management systems (LIMS – Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Optimizing data flow processes and providing technical support to system users.

Data Quality and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Monitoring data quality and developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and completeness (D2.1, KPI16).
  • Ensuring adherence to legal regulations, quality standards (e.g., ISO 20387), and ethical principles.

Collaboration with Stakeholders:

  • Assisting scientists and institutional partners in accessing biobank resources and analyzing data, while facilitating communication channels with biomedical ecosystem stakeholders (KPI10).
  • Working closely with IT, clinical, and research teams to integrate biobank data with other platforms and research projects.
  • Establishing data repositories with project partners to enable regular information exchange (KPI26).

Reporting and Data Analysis:

  • Preparing operational and analytical reports on P1 activities.
  • Conducting data analysis to support research projects and optimize resource management.

Data Security Management:

  • Implementing procedures to safeguard biobank data in compliance with applicable data protection standards (e.g., GDPR).
  • Overseeing data access and sharing policies.

Requirements:

  • Higher education in biological, biomedical or medical sciences.
  • Experience in research, diagnostic or biobanking work, including access to an account with data collection, transmission and archiving.
  • Ability to use data analysis tools such as PLSR, Ridge Regression, rrBLUP and programming tools and programs: TensorFlow, Python, R; application of work in high-performance systems (HPC) environments.
  • Experience in realization projects funnded by EU funds.
  • Practical application of the principles of compliance with the universal data protection act (GDPR) and the principles of biomedical research ethics.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment and cooperation with scientific, clinical and IT teams.
  • Experience in developing audit documentation and conducting control over data processing compliance.
  • Analytical thinking skills and ability to prepare reports.
  • Accuracy, meticulousness and responsibility in carrying out tasks.
  • Very good knowledge of English in speech and writing (minimum B2/C1 level).
