Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development is a Research Institute within the Łukasiewicz Research Network. It focuses on development of new technologies, resulting from basic and applied research, which, in turn, serves as a basis for innovative solutions for the industry. With high-class specialists and state-of-the-art infrastructure, we provide capacity for the most advanced research. Our Institute consists of three research centers – Life Sciences & Biotechnology Center, Materials Science & Engineering Center and Center for Population Diagnostics,  with access to specialized core laboratories – a combination, which allows to carry out both, scientific research and pilot studies for the industry in a comprehensive manner.

We invite candidates to apply for the position of Senior Specialist – Research Engineer in The Quantitative Virology Research Group.

Scope of duties The Quantitative Virology Research Group welcomes a talented candidate to join a four-year fully funded postdoc position. The candidate will join the WEAVE-UNISONO project to investigate the molecular basis behind a small molecule inhibitor of HIV integration, LEDGINs (Vansant et al. Nucleic Acids Res 2019; Pellaers et al. Nat Commun 2025), aiming to develop innovative functional cures for curing HIV-1 infection. The successful applicant will have the chance to learn and perform the tailored high-throughput approach, B-HIVE with barcoded HIV (Chen et al. Nat Struct Mol Biol 2017), Oxford Nanopore sequencing, ChIP-seq, and quantitative molecular biotechniques in this project and participate in writing articles and grants, mentoring students. Supported by this joint project, the successful candidate will visit two laboratories affiliated with Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland), and KU Leuven (Leuven, Flanders, Belgium) collaborated in this project. Overall, the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to boost his/her scientific career in the HIV field and broaden his/her scientific community.

This position is funded by the Polish National Science Center – WEAVE-UNISONO project 2024/06/Y/NZ6/00041.

Requirments:

  • Ph.D. in Virology or Molecular Biology or relevant fields;
  • at least one first-author peer-reviewed research article;
  • Experience in viral culture (lentiviral-based vectors or others);
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (molecular cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR);
  • Experience in any “omics” approach;
  • Experience in cell culture;
  • Enthusiastic about learning (new knowledge and techniques);
  • Task-oriented person and a team worker;
  • Good communication skills in English (written and spoken);
  • Experience in generating high-throughput sequencing libraries (Preferences).
