SAME-NeuroID Seminar: lecture by Dr. Nikolas Karalis

Łukasiewicz – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development invites you to a lecture by Dr. Nikolas Karalis, team leader at the Paris Brain Institute (Institut du Cerveau – ICM), France.

The lecture, titled “Functional architecture of neuronal circuits“, will take place on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Building A, Aula (1st floor).

Session will be followed by a Q&A session dedicated for Young Researchers, providing an opportunity to seek advice on accelerating a research career and navigating potential challenges.

Q&A for Young Researchers January 9 , 2025, 3:00 p.m. Building A, Aula (1st floor).

Dr. Karalis and his team have investigated how neuromodulators regulate amygdala circuit activity during different behavioral states, including exploration, sleep, reward, and aversion learning. Their study focuses on the amygdala, a brain region critical for processing emotional stimuli, which receives inputs from major neuromodulators such as dopamine, acetylcholine, serotonin, and norepinephrine. Using novel sensors and advanced imaging techniques, they have characterized the dynamics of neuromodulator release and their impact on neuronal activity during distinct behaviors.

Dr. Nikolas Karalis is a tenured researcher (chargé de recherche) at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). He studied Applied Mathematics and Physics at the National Technical University of Athens before shifting his focus to neuroscience. He obtained his PhD at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he explored the role of breathing in neuronal dynamics. As a postdoctoral fellow and later as a team leader at FMI Basel, Dr. Karalis investigated the role of neuromodulators in coordinating amygdala activity during behavior.

You can attend the lecture in person at Łukasiewicz – PORT (147 Stabłowicka Street, Wrocław) or online via SAME-Match-Treat platform:
