Commercialization of technologies

SUPPORT IN COMMERCIALIZATION

Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development is a partner offering support in the implementation of scientific and research projects and the commercialization of their effects.

We perform a selection of research project results, analysis and evaluation of their commercial potential, prepare a patent protection strategy and develop technology cards, containing full technology descriptions that enable their reconstruction by an independent team, as well as perform technology pricing and participate in the commercialization process of the solutions developed by researchers from PORT for business.

Łukasiewicz – PORT invites to cooperation, under which:

  • we offer the technologies for which we have full rights
  • we provide patent protection for developed technologies
  • we take care of proper documentation of the offered solutions, enabling their reproduction
  • we are flexible in terms of forms of cooperation and commercialization, we practice the sale of rights, licensing, creating companies, and conducting joint research projects
  • we offer the opportunity to test the developed inventions
  • we provide implementation support
  • we analyze customer needs and tailor our offer to their requirements

Łukasiewicz – PORT cooperates with small and medium enterprises, conducting joint R&D projects. Among our partners in the bio-field and materials’ science are some of the following polish and international companies: Vaxican, Fibiomed, Keymed and SDS-Optic, SensDx, LG, Amgen, Pfizer, Roche, DeLaval International AB.

SEE OUR ACHIEVEMENTS:

In the years 2008-2015 PORT Polish Center for Technology Development launched two interdisciplinary research projects in cooperation with research units and industrial partners from all over Poland as part of the Innovative Economy Program, namely:

  • BioMed – Biotechnologies and advanced medical technologies
  • NanoMat – The use of nanotechnology in modern materials in two key areas: nano- and biotechnology.

Based on the vast experience gained during the implementation of these projects, our scientists have gained expertise in: diagnostics and personalized medicine, recombinant therapeutic proteins, drug delivery systems, combating drug-resistant pathogens and stem cell therapy, bioimaging, photonics, materials engineering, and nanotechnology.

Both projects were accompanied by activities aimed at the commercialization of the obtained research results, during the implementation of which more than 60 inventions and technologies submitted for patent protection were created. Łukasiewicz – PORT continues its scientific and research work in both of these areas, constantly extending its scientific horizons.

INNOVATIVE MATERIALS

Łukasiewicz – PORT operates in the field of research on multifunctional materials, developing many innovative products. We develop new materials and resin-based composites with hydrophobic and superhydrophobic properties for potential use in self-cleaning surfaces, as coatings to protect structural materials in industrial construction against water erosion and in passive anti-icing systems. These coatings have a chance to be used in renewable energy to protect wind turbines or in the aviation industry to protect propellers and wings. The solution will soon be submitted as national and international patent applications.

ADSORPTION AND DETECTION OF CONTAMINANTS

Recently, the Materials Engineering Centre of Łukasiewicz – PORT is proceeding with some ideas related to adsorption and detection of contaminants in water. Centre develops new technologies by using modified alluminosilicates adsorbents as filtering materials and applies oligo- and polymers for detection of dangerous contaminants like endocrine disruptive chemicals. Initial research on adsorbents has gained tremendous attention from world leaders in the production of water purification systems as well as municipal water treatment plants.

PHOTONIC STRUCTURES

Group of Advanced Materials’ Synthesis invents methods using focused electron beam induced deposition. It is a direct method used in science and industry to create nanostructural paths using focused high-energy electron beams. The very first work resulted in a patent application P.428721 ‘’Method of producing planar two- and three-dimensional photonic structures’’. The subject of this invention is a method of producing planar photonic structures of two- and three-dimensional optical components for applications in integrated optical, photonic, electronic, and optoelectronic systems, in which the components are formed by heating and selective polymerization of an organic salt by means of an electron or ion beam. The invention is applicable f.ex. in integrated systems but also shows high flexibility for being used in metallic circuits. The second patent application shows a method and system for the production of a microreservoir, that could hit the microresist technology (P.436336).

COPPER AND GRAPHENE

Łukasiewicz – PORT together with R&D Centers of KGHM Cuprum Sp. z o.o. and Advanced Graphene Products Sp. z o.o. develops graphene layers on copper wires for electronic applications. This project is a part of the latest trends in the electronics industry, where it becomes necessary to miniaturize the systems with a simultaneous reduction in the cost of their production.

UV EMITTERS

The Semiconductor Epitaxy Team of Łukasiewicz – PORT carried out the project entitled “New efficient deep-UV emitters for Life Science Applications”, financed by the Foundation for Polish Science. The goal was to launch epitaxy of semiconductor structures intended for UV emitters. In the next step, our team, based on the acquired knowledge and experience, wants to manufacture emitters for the UV-C range (280-260nm) with a power of several milliwatts. The goal is to develop UV-C LED technology with the highest possible efficiency.

GREEN AMBER

In the field of biotechnology, Łukasiewicz – PORT conducts projects with big industrial partners. Therefore the research results are suited to the particular needs of different industrial applications. “Green Amber” can serve as an example of our innovative projects. It has been conducted with one of the leading players on the European fertilizer and chemical markets – The Azoty Group. For several years Łukasiewicz – PORT has been working with Azoty to invent a production method for biological succinic acid from renewable and waste raw materials by microbial fermentation technology. That procedure adopts efficient genetically modified strains of Enterobacter, that were developed by the microbiologists of Lukasiewicz – PORT. We are going to support our partner in adopting the new manufactured technology into his production lines. We are also preparing a patent application. The R&D work mentioned here has been financially supported by The National Centre for Research and Development.
