Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development is a Research Institute within the Łukasiewicz Research Network. It focuses on development of new technologies, resulting from basic and applied research, which, in turn, serves as a basis for innovative solutions for the industry. We invite candidates to apply for the position of

Senior Specialist – Research Engineer in The Quantitative Virology Research Group.

The candidate will join a young, dynamic and growing research group, participating in the project funded by the Polish National Science Center (NCN) and National Science Foundation (NSF). The candidate will be hired in the framework of the IMPRESS-U grant. The project name: Modeling and Forecasting of Infection Spread in War and Post War Settings Using Epidemiological, Behavioral and Genomic Surveillance Data.

The Quantitative Virology Research Group in Łukasiewicz–PORT (https://port.lukasiewicz.gov.pl/en/rd/center-for-populations-diagnostics/quantitative-virology-research-group/) invites applications for a postdoctoral position starting as soon as possible. We are recruiting applicants with broad research interests in working on the Big Data (metagenomics) analysis and computational modeling.

The candidate will work with exploring epidemiological models within the framework of phylodynamics and phylogeography and integrating them with population genetics models. Increasing the performance of integration algorithms and model simulations and developing machine learning methods for analyzing genomic data.

The successful applicant will work in a young laboratory and join a collaborative, vibrant, and growing community of researchers in an environment that values creativity and scientific communications in Łukasiewicz–PORT. In our team, we carry on both wet-lab experiments and dry lab bioinformatics analyses. The candidate will join scientific discussions with other team members. Together with the team leader, the candidate will help with training newcomers. Overall, the candidate will have a great opportunity to participate in research on training and gain knowledge and skills for his/her career development.

Requirments:

  • Ph.D. in computational science or relevant fields;
  • at least one first-author peer-reviewed research article;
  • working knowledge of Python; knowing additional programming languages will be appreciated;
  • anticipating projects related to in silico modeling with metagenomics datasets or with population genetics datasets;
  • task-oriented person and a team worker;
  • good communication skills in English (written and spoken);
  • acceptable for scientific mobility.

Preferences

• Experience in any “omics” approach.
