Population Diagnostics Core Facility Laboratory
The Core Facility Laboratory within the Łukasiewicz – PORT Population Diagnostics Center plays a crucial role in coordinating commercial services and supporting scientific community in the areas of medical diagnostics and microbiology. The laboratory continuously improves its services based on implemented quality standards for the Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (PN-EN ISO 15189:2023-02) and the activities within the field of microbiology (PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02) to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the tests performed. The Medical Diagnostic Laboratory is registered as a healthcare provider and operates in accordance with current regulations of Polish Ministry of Health. The Laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art Sample Collection Point, situated within the Łukasiewicz – PORT campus. Core Facility Laboratory provides personalized solutions for scientific community, as well as addresses the needs of commercial market.

- Comprehensive support for research and development projects, offering innovative approaches and individual consulting in the fields of medical diagnostics, microbiology, and biotechnology.
- Validation of diagnostic and research tests in accordance with PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02 guidelines for testing laboratories and the standards of the Polish Pharmacopoeia.
- Typing and genomic characterization of bacteria using the Mi-Seq platform (Illumina) in accordance with PN-EN ISO 23418.
- Direct DNA extraction from environmental samples in accordance with PN-EN ISO 11063.
- Extraction of nucleic acids (DNA, RNA, miRNA, cfDNA, ctDNA) from various clinical, animal, biological, and environmental materials.
- Genetic identification of microorganisms using Sanger sequencing of highly conserved regions (16S rDNA, 18S rDNA, 28S rDNA, COI, ITS).
- Testing of sterile and non-sterile products in accordance with the standards of the Polish Pharmacopoeia (cosmetics, food, pharmaceutical products, medical devices) upon client request.
- Determination of the bacterial and fungal contamination (bioburden) on a materia, component, Surface, tissue-based and healthcare products in accordance with the PN-EN ISO/TS 22456 standard.
- Determination and characterization of viable microorganism populations on health care products, components, raw materials, or packaging in accordance with the PN-EN ISO 11737 standard.
- Quantitative estimation of the presence of microbial genes in a sample using real-time PCR in accordance with PN-EN ISO 17601.
- Comprehensive characterization of microorganisms (isolation of the microorganism, biochemical analysis, genetic identification, phenotypic analysis).
- Lyophilization, cryopreservation and banking of microorganisms.
- Microbiological purity analysis of laboratories, production halls, medical offices, office surfaces and public spaces (assessment of surface contamination, effectiveness testing of cleaning, sterilization and disinfection procedures, microbiological air purity testing).
- Microbiological water analysis:
- Sampling for microbiological analysis at the customer’s site in accordance with PN-EN ISO 19458.
- Determination of the total number of viable microorganisms in accordance with PN-EN ISO 6222.
- Quantitative determination of Legionella spp. bacteria in accordance with PN-EN ISO 11731.
- Detection and quantitative determination of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in accordance with PN-EN ISO 16266.
- Detection and quantitative determination of Clostridium perfringens in accordance with PN-EN ISO 14189.
- Detection and quantitative determination of faecal enterococci in accordance with PN-EN ISO 7899-2.
- Quantitative determination of Escherichia coli and coliform bacteria in accordance with PN-EN ISO 9308-1.
- Proteomic analyses of biological material (protein extraction, protein concentration determination, SDS-Page protein electrophoresis and Western blot hybridization immunodetection).
